“If you want to know something well, teach it to someone else,” the saying goes.
Today, in my How To column at Copyediting.com, I look at where and how editors might teach what they know in order to improve her own skills and knowledge.
Teaching can be a very productive enterprise as well as lucrative. Last year one-quarter of my (increased) income came from teaching, and now that I’ve been teaching for a few years, I guarantee it doesn’t take one-quarter of my time. My students force me to learn something every time I run a class, and often they teach me something too.
