The terms figure and visual are often used interchangeably. For each visual in the product, there will be a separate entry in the figures manuscript. In this week’s How To post on the (now defunct) Copyediting blog, get a checklist for what goes in each of those entries.
Depending on the client’s practices, preparing the figures manuscript may be the responsibility of the substantive editor, the copy editor, or an editorial assistant. In the case of journals, this is often the author’s responsibility.
