Comma splice? Indecipherable? Natural? Permissible?
I adore James Harbeck for his ability to use big words to smack reason into those on all sides of the grammatical divide. His post on the non-existent comma splice is 3 years old but I just found it. I love it so much, I need to preserve it in my “links of note.”
You may use James’ considered arguments to fight “superstitious, prescriptivist fetishists of the worst sort.” (To borrow a colourful phrase from John, one of the commenters.)
“For a thousand years it’s good English, then it’s a comma splice?” by James Harbeck, Sesquiotic.
